Equine Veterinary Medicine in Central Alberta

Heide Veterinary Services was established in October, 2007 by Dr. Brian Heide. The practice encompasses all aspects of equine veterinary medicine and breeding, as well as some work with beef cattle. Our clinic is set up with an exam and procedure area with stocks for horses, a knockdown room for routine surgical procedures, a barn with indoor box stalls, an extensive mare motel with individual pens, pipe fenced paddocks, and an isolation area for sick calves.

Dr. Brian Heide

Dr. Heide graduated from WCVM in 2002 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in addition to a BSc in Zoology from the University of Calgary. Dr. Heide’s strong interest in and knowledge of both horses and cattle led him to pursue a career as a large animal veterinarian with a main focus on equine medicine. With breeding as an area of special interest, he is always researching innovative ways to provide his clients with leading technology in equine reproductive services.

Together with his wife Jackie, Dr. Heide breeds, raises, and shows western performance horses and Irish Wolfhounds. The couple resides in the same yard as the clinic with their 3 sons.

Leah
Leah
Leah has been with Heide Veterinary Services since 2017. Originally from Prince George, BC, she has called central Alberta home for over 20 years.  Her lifelong love of animals guided her decision to make a career out of caring for them, and, after initially graduating from the Veterinary Medical Receptionist program at Olds College in 2007, Leah was driven to continue her education in the animal health field. In 2010, she received her diploma from Olds College in Animal Health Technology. After graduation, Leah worked in mixed animal practice and found that she has an avid interest in large animal medicine. She lives on an acreage outside of Red Deer with her husband Alan and their furry kids. She is active in the cutting/cow horse world and enjoys the outdoors in her spare time.
Sydney
Sydney
Sydney grew up in Stettler, Alberta on a mixed farm operation. Growing up around cattle and horses, her love for animals started at a young age. Sydney went to Lakeland College for the Animal Health Technology program and graduated in 2024. She completed her practicum at Heide Veterinary Services and has been with us ever since. Riding horses, attending concerts, and travelling are her main passions. Animal reproduction and bloodlines have quickly become a big interest to her, and Sydney now has a broodmare of her own to start with.

Although a very friendly boy, Boone can sometimes be a little shy with new people. Once he warms up to you however, he will make sure to tell you all his stories with his very enthusiastic howls. In his down time Boone enjoys going on adventures with his humans – especially camping and to horse shows.
